Sustainability Impact

Honest numbers. Transparent methodology.

We believe sustainability metrics should be conservative, clearly explained, and honest about their limitations. Here's exactly how we calculate impact — and what we don't claim.

Important: These are estimates

PaceLeaf is in early development. Impact numbers on this page are projections based on anticipated platform usage, not yet achieved results. Methodology is subject to change. Do not cite these numbers in regulatory or financial documents.

Methodology

How we calculate impact

Transparency is a core principle. Here's the exact methodology behind each impact category.

🚗

Vehicle Trips Avoided

We estimate avoided vehicle trips based on verified sustainable modes substituting what would otherwise be a car trip. We apply conservative multipliers — not every walking trip replaces a drive. Our estimates assume 40–60% mode substitution rates based on published commuter behavior research.

💨

CO₂ Savings Estimation

CO₂ savings use the EPA's average vehicle emission factor (404 grams CO₂ per mile) applied to the estimated avoided car distance. We do not claim credit for the CO₂ produced by transit or e-bike electricity. Estimates are conservative.

🏃

Steps and Activity

Steps are estimated from GPS-tracked walking distance using average stride length (0.762 meters for adults). Cycling and transit activities are reported as distance rather than steps. All figures are GPS-derived, not pedometer-estimated.

📊

Community Impact Aggregation

Community-level impact is the aggregate of individual verified activity. We do not extrapolate or project beyond what was actually logged and verified in the app. Reported totals reflect only completed, verified activities.

Community Challenges

Projected challenge impact

Illustrative projections for planned community challenges. Actual results will be published after each completed challenge.

Challenge Period Participants Trips CO₂ Avoided (est.) Status
Austin Bike Week May 2025 (projected) 300 1,200 540 lbs Illustrative projection
University Green Commute Month September 2025 (projected) 500 4,000 1,800 lbs Illustrative projection
Downtown Transit Challenge October 2025 (projected) 1,000 8,000 3,600 lbs Illustrative projection

What we don't claim

  • All environmental impact metrics are estimates. Methodology is subject to revision.
  • PaceLeaf is not a certified carbon offset provider. Points do not represent verified carbon credits or offsets.
  • Community impact numbers are based on projected or early test data and should not be cited in regulatory, financial, or legal documents.
  • Mode substitution assumptions are based on published peer-reviewed research but may not reflect individual user behavior.
  • PaceLeaf does not make any environmental certifications or warranties. Impact reporting is for informational and engagement purposes.
